Dartmouth covers a lot of ground. It runs from the waterfront homes of Padanaram and Nonquitt to farm country in Russells Mills and Hixville, and on to the busy neighborhoods of North Dartmouth near UMass. The trees vary just as much: wind-shaped oaks on the shore, huge maples along stone walls, and woodlots that haven’t been touched in a generation.
TriTown Group takes on removals, pruning, stump grinding, cabling, and storm work across Dartmouth, 02747 and 02748.
Old stone walls, old trees
Dartmouth’s back roads, like Russells Mills Road, Horseneck Road, and Chase Road, are lined with stone walls and the big trees that grew up along them. Those trees often lean over the road or the wall, and their roots are wrapped around the stones. Taking one down without knocking over a wall that’s been standing for two centuries takes care, and we plan for it from the start.
On the shore in Padanaram, Round Hill, Nonquitt, and along Smith Neck Road, the problems are salt and wind. Trees there lean inland and carry their heavy limbs on the sheltered side. They hold up fine until a storm pushes from an unusual direction.
Roadside and waterfront rules
Trees within a public road layout are public shade trees under state law. If your road is a designated scenic road, cutting trees in the right of way also needs a hearing. Near the Slocum’s River, Apponagansett Bay, and the marshes, work within the wetland buffer can need Conservation Commission approval. If your tree sits near the road or the water, we’ll sort out whose tree it is and what’s needed before we cut.
Where we work in Dartmouth
Padanaram Village and Apponagansett Bay, Smith Neck, Round Hill, Nonquitt, Bliss Corner, Russells Mills village and the Slocum’s River area, South Dartmouth, North Dartmouth near UMass Dartmouth and the Route 6 corridor, and Hixville out toward Freetown.
Farms and larger properties
On farm and estate properties, we often handle several jobs in one visit: dead trees along a field edge, limbs over a barn roof, hedgerow trees shading a garden, and a few stumps in the lawn. Bundling the work into one visit is usually the most cost-effective way to get it done.

Roadside trees along stone walls are a good fit for our bucket truck, so we can piece them down from above without dropping wood on the wall. On the few jobs big enough for a crane, we rent one, and our crew knows that work well.

Dartmouth tree service FAQ
Can you remove a tree that’s grown into a stone wall?
Yes. We take the tree down to a low stump without pulling on the wall, then decide with you whether to grind carefully around the stones or leave a low stump so the wall isn’t disturbed.
Do you work in Padanaram, Nonquitt, and Round Hill?
Yes. We cover all of South Dartmouth, including Padanaram, Smith Neck, Nonquitt, and Round Hill, along with North Dartmouth and Hixville.
How far is Dartmouth from you?
We’re based in Marion, about a half-hour away, depending on where you are in town. For planned work, that’s no issue. For storm emergencies, call right away and we’ll give you an honest arrival time.
Do I need a permit to cut near the Slocum’s River or a marsh?
Work inside a wetland or its buffer zone can need Conservation Commission approval. We’ll flag it if your trees are close to water, so you can check with the town before we schedule.
Around Dartmouth, we also do fall cleanup, from leaf removal to storm debris haul-away, and install permanent roofline lights you control from your phone.
